As
always this year was not much different;
they came in various shapes, sizes and
attitudes – but with one goal in
common, which was to make it as one of
the finalists for the Miss Cine Fashion
2006! I was given the enviable task of
interviewing a bevy of beauties and must
admit that aside from relishing the prospect,
I also realized what a daunting task it
was going to be. Bearing that in mind,
on the sunny morning of the 7th of May,
I was ushered into the suite of Crown
Princess Hotel, Jalan Ampang, where about
40 hopefuls had been short listed for
the semi-finals of the Miss Cine Fashion
2006.
Staring
incessantly, it was evident that each
girl Present was nervous and excited at
the same time. There wasn’t a doubt
however that they had come with one purpose
and nothing was going to derail them from
that single pursuit,
which was to qualify for the Miss Cine
Fashion Pageant 2006. Looking radiant
and bright in white baby-tees and jeans,
each girl possessed a tinge of charisma,
confidence and charm, hopefully sufficient
to seize the crown at the end of the day!
“She
must have a wholesome attitude that strikes
you at the very first look-that’s
the sort of impression she must leave
on people, not just the judges. Of
course a proportionate figure and a fertile
mind help– because we do not want
a ‘dumb blonde’ type representing
our country at the International level.
However, the most important element is
that she must ooze with confidence and
have the ability to articulate, displaying
good communication skills,”

pointed
out Ms. RT.Selvii who is the Editor
of Cine Fashion.
In
the previous years, the pageant never
failed to create a massive uproar with
he much hyped up swimwear category.
Although the contestants see the category
as a platform to enhance one’s
self esteem and confidence,some sections
of the community thought otherwise.
After much contemplation and deliberation,the
organizers have decided to go ahead
with the swimwear round but with a slight
compromise. The difference is that it
would now be conducted behind closed
doors, minus any publicity whatsoever.
The
judges for the semi-finals were Sudhashini
Nair, G. S. Murali, Sidi O Zara, Vaani,
Caroline Joseph, Dr. Lilli J and Anbanathan.
Judged on various aspects ranging from
physical appearance,communication skills
to overall performance, 15 finalists
were chosen to take part in the grand
finale that will be held on the 23rd
of July at the Crown Princess Hotel,
Kuala Lumpur. Prior to the finals, the
selected girls would be required to
attend compulsory workshops by renowned
experts to enhance their personality
and to groom them to be a class above
the rest. Who would grab the coveted
crown of Miss Cine Fashion 2006? With
bated breath, let us wait and see…..

What
the Judges said.....
“No
one is perfect and I applaud the girls
for having reached the semi-finals. While
each one of them was unique and special
in their own ways, some of them lacked
confidence and also proper grooming. Besides
communication skills, they are also judged
on their overall personality. Those who
are not selected should not be disheartened,
instead they should learn from their shortcomings
and take it as a valuable learning experience.”
(Dr. Lilli J)
“I cannot believe it. We have so
many talented young Indian girls amongst
us and I personally believe that via this
pageant they’ve found the right
platform. Our society, if not for anything,
should encourage these aspiring girls
for the courage and determination that
burns in each one of them. It is indeed
not an easy task to come this far, and
I wish all the participants all the best
in their future undertakings.” (G.
S. Murali)
“Being
a former beauty queen, I know how each
contestant feels today! Most importantly
a beauty queen is judged on her talents,
intelligence, beauty, communication skills
and not forgetting her personality as
a whole. For me, there are no regrets.
The experience of being part of the Miss
Cine Fashion was incredible and every
subsequent pageant was a once-in-a-lifetime
experience.” (Sudhashini Nair) CF
